The Work

Operate and improve production dataflows

The core work is system operations, troubleshooting, and maintenance, with particular attention to NiFi flows and cluster management. You will also support system integration, upgrades, and deployments across systems that ingest large volumes of data.

  • Maintain NiFi dataflows and clusters and investigate processing or throughput problems.
  • Manage and deploy Elasticsearch clusters and build Kibana visualizations and dashboards.
  • Use Linux and Docker to support the processing environment and Python for light scripting.
  • Work with the team to improve the efficiency of foundational data processing and analytic solutions.

Required experience versus desirable skills

Strong working knowledge of Apache NiFi is required. The opening also calls for understanding of enterprise dataflow, intermediate Linux and Docker knowledge, and familiarity with Elasticsearch and Kibana. Kubernetes and Kafka are desirable additions. Experience with another ETL platform can help, but the NiFi requirement is specific.

How this differs from the principal software opening

Requisition 394 emphasizes dataflow operations and NiFi cluster management. Principal Software Engineer requisition 416 has broader Python, Java, R, AWS, business-intelligence, and AI/ML responsibilities, with NiFi listed as desirable. Choose the role that matches the work you have actually performed.

NiFi / dataflow engineering questions

Do I need a clearance and polygraph already?

Yes. This opening requires active TS/SCI with a current polygraph. Tell the recruiter whether you hold a CI or full-scope polygraph so the team can confirm customer acceptance and site access before proceeding.

Is this a remote NiFi developer job?

This opening supports Maryland mission work in the Fort Meade area. A remote arrangement is not advertised. Confirm the specific site, schedule, and any onsite expectations with the recruiter.

Should I apply if my title is Linux administrator or data engineer?

Your responsibilities matter more than your title. Direct experience running NiFi flows and clusters, troubleshooting Linux systems, and supporting large-volume data ingestion is relevant. Include that work and its duration in your resume.
